This is not so much a
haunting phenomena, more of an alleged paranormal activity.
Although a confirmed sceptic I have actually witnessed this
form of phenomena several times, personally I find this
particular form of activity totally fascinating.
Deport/Apport is really
a fancy name for an object disappearing and reappearing
again. Often the object will appear elsewhere, but it can
also pop up in the same place, but at a later date/time
having otherwise gone missing.
Now to put the sceptics view first, it is possible that the
item has simply been put elsewhere by an absentminded or
otherwise distracted person, perhaps moved by a young child
or by an adult as a practical joke.
Where the activity is
concerned it is not uncommon for the whole room to be search
high and low several times before finding what was lost is
sitting in exactly the same place it was when it went
missing, although several people have already searched
there.
The other variation on
this activity is that the missing item turns up in a totally
daft place, no one can remember putting it there. When this
happens the object is usually returned in a very obvious
place, such that you cannot fail to notice it, in some cases
almost falling over it.
The believer in the paranormal would say that this sort of
activity is the work of a mischievous spirit, sometimes
called a 'Brownie', and often but not always this would be
attributed to a child sprit.
Things can just move from
place to place reappearing at almost the same time or they
can disappear for an extended period, but they almost
inevitably reappear "eventually". Sometimes as in my
example 2 below they can appear in the most ridiculous
places.
The one odd thing about this behaviour is that the items are
never seen to either disappear or reappear.
I have two true stories
regarding this phenomena which I can tell, the first
happened to Caz and the second to me personally. Both of us
are sane and until they went missing we had our marbles
(joke), both are complete sceptics, neither of us are prone
to memory loss or have uncorrected poor vision.
The reason for the latter
will become apparent .
Example 1
There is a lead attached to Caz's
computer, it connects to a specific piece of equipment that
is regularly used and hence the lead is never removed. In
any case it is not used by anything else in the house.
Caz went to use the lead
and no lead, the area and then the room was searched,
several times, as well as the rest of the house, others in
the house were asked if they had moved it, all denied.
Several weeks went by and
a new lead was purchased. A few 'months' later Caz was alone
in the house walked into the lounge and there right out in
the open on the carpet in front of them was the wire, all
coiled up. Caz had been in this room several times and had
even walked over this same spot and is adamant that the
cable could not have been there.
Example 2
Here is a true example of an event that
happened to me when I was visiting a haunted holiday cottage
in Wales:
I came in from a day out riding around with my now ex-wife
on our Motorcycle, I sat down heavy in the armchair by the
fire and put my bike keys down on the table that was a foot
or so from my chair. Having had a few minutes sit down I
decided to get out of my bike gear and got up to go upstairs
to change.
I put my hand down on the table where the keys were put and
no keys.
The table had been in either my line of sight or my
ex-wife's the whole time, she confirmed seeing me put the
keys on the table, the floor was duly checked, still no
keys. We both franticly searched for the keys, which were
nowhere to be found. We finally decided that they would
probably surface when we searched again later after we had
had a well needed cup of tea and something to eat.
We had already met a 90 year old lady in the village who
asked me if we had seen her friend at the cottage. I of
course was thinking of another elderly lady and said that
she must be mistaken. No she said XXXX was a six year old
girl, the elderly ladies school friend, who slipped and fell
down the slate stairs breaking her neck at the bottom in the
hallway.
Now if she was trying to frighten me she had picked the
wrong person, for even 27 years ago I was well into the
paranormal and found the prospect of seeing the ghost a real
high.
Now we had already been warned by others that we knew, that
things disappeared and repapered at the cottage and now I
too had experienced it.
I remembered what the old lady had told me and said "come on
XXXX what have you done with my keys I need them back,
please return them". Absolutely nothing happened and we had
our evening meal which my ex-wife cooked in the Microwave.
After some time reading of the places that we still had to
visit and another cup of tea we went to bed. Still no keys
we discussed what we were going to do in the morning and
eventually fell asleep
The next morning we still had not found the keys, despite a
further very comprehensive search of the room. By now I was
getting pretty frantic and this time virtually took the
lounge apart, shortly after I was greeted by my ex-wife
emerging from the kitchen holding the keys. Apart from a
relieved expletive my next words were where the ?!^* did you
find them. The answer believe it or not was in the
Microwave.
Now metal in a Microwave causes a very obvious effect of
sparks and bangs, not something you could easily miss if you
used it for cooking with a set of keys inside. Yet we used
the Microwave the night before and my ex-wife was adamant
that she did not put the keys in there and had found them
when she went to cook scrambled eggs for our breakfast.
My ex-wife insisted that she had not been playing a
practical joke on me so the only possible conclusion in the
absence of any other humans being present is that XXXX must
have done so?
These two are perfect examples of the Deport/Apport
phenomena, both are true stories and for the record I am a
confirmed sceptic, always have been!
This is one of a number of phenomena that are sometimes
described as being Poltergeistal Phenomena, but that have
absolutely nothing to do with Poltergeist entities.
