Motion Detectors

Motion detectors

These come in several types and have two uses.

The type that is most common uses the same technology as Burglar Alarms that is they are sensitive to heat in a particular range. These are good at picking up humans, but "may" not be so good with Ghosts, although I have read a number of reports where it has been alleged that Ghosts have set off a burglar alarm.

These devices are however great at making sure that there is no human presence in what should be a locked off area. The picture below shows the type that we use, these units can be switch off and on remotely.

Another kind of detector uses hall effect magnetic devices, which can detect very small movements of hanging metal disks. These are very sensitive, but can pick up a lorry driving past going over a bump in the road or of course a member of the team walking in a nearby room.

The third kind that I have come across use mercury switches these are quite course detectors and can be used in locations where the more sensitive devices are not acceptable. They can be placed on an item that a Ghost is alleged to move so that you know when this is happening; they could of course be linked to a camera to record the event.

Another use for these is on the handle of a door to detect when it is opened, either by a Ghost or in an area where a human ought not to be at the time.
